Forum Romanorum (Italian: Foro Romano) was a Roman square in Zadar and the largest area of its kind on the entire eastern Adriatic coast. Its construction began in the 1st BC and it was the main square of the Roman Zadar where the public life of the city took place.

The Bijela River is a hydrogeological phenomenon. It springs from a cave at about 300 meters above sea level, and the river canyon takes on a white color from the dissolved limestone, which is why it got its name.

In 1409, Ladislav the king of Naples and Croatia-Hungary sold Zadar, Novigrad, Pag, Vrana and his rights on Dalmatia to Venice for 100,000 ducats. This event was remembered in history as the ‘shameful sale of Dalmatia’. From then on, the Venetians retained power over the city until the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797.

Pope Alexander III he was the first pope to visit Croatian lands in 1177. He visited Palagruža, Vis and Rab, and in Zadar he was greeted by a crowd singing songs in Croatian. Zadar hosted a pope for the second time in 2003, when a large number of peole welcomed Pope John Paul II at the Forum in the old town.

Giovanni Smirich, an artist and historian and one of the most prominent citizens of the 19th century in Zadar, built a sphinx that is special in many ways. The replica of the Egyptian sphinx in Zadar has fingers instead of paws and once held a large sword, furthermore, on the mysterious Zadar sphinx are engraved letters, similar to hieroglyphs that have not been deciphered to this day.

Is the current city bridge for pedestrians the third time lucky? Only time will tell. The bridge is, namely, believed to be jinxed, since this is the third one built in the same spot in less than a hundred years. The first one lasted only 16 years and was destroyed in the World War II bombing and the second one was gone with the wind soon afterwards. Well, the third one has been there for more than fifty years. Hopefully it’s here to stay. Don’t feel like pushing your luck by crossing it? Then use the services of the city’s true legends - the barkajoli, who will take you from one end to another in their boat. As they’ve been doing for the past 800 years.

During centuries of turbulent history, Zadar was guarded by its four “equal” patron saints: St. Simeon, St. Chrysogonus, St. Anastasia and St. Zoilus. St. Simeon is celebrated on October 8, St. Chrysogonus on November 24th, St. Anastasia on Januar 15th and St. Zoilus on December 16th.

Not far from Obrovac is the small village of Kruševo. Its rich history is reflected in the remains of the Liburnian-Roman town of Clambetae or the so-called hillfort Cvijina Gradina, where traces of the sidewalk, the Temple of Mars and the thermal baths can still be seen. Kruševo’s Church of St. George and the Church of St. Cosmas and Damian in the ​​Ribnica area are both worth visiting. Nowadays, Kruševo is becoming increasingly popular among tourists because of its beautiful beaches and clear sea, such as: beaches Pisak, Meka Drage, Crna Punta as well as the beaches in Šušnjar and Vrulje. Due to the confluence of the river Zrmanja and the sea, and hence the mixing of fresh and salt water, the beaches are rich in healing mud. Comfortable and quality accommodation can be found in family houses, apartments and small rural households. Fans of active holidays can enjoy hiking and biking trails, rafting on the Zrmanja river and free climbing in Paklenica.

Lake Vrana (Croatian: Vransko jezero) is the largest lake in Croatia. It is a designated nature park (park prirode), a legislatively protected nature reserve. 
Near the highest peak of the Nature Park Vransko Lake (Štandarac, 303 m.a.s.l.), there is the most attractive viewpoint of this area – Info centre Kamenjak, at a height of about 283 meters above the sea.

In the area of the info centre you can get more information about the Nature Park, buy souvenirs with motifs of Vransko Lake, cycling and excursion tickets, and you can also enjoy the specialties of the traditional tavern. In mid-September, meet local farmers at the “Luka i igara” fair.

From the Kamenjak viewpoint you can see the most beautiful Islands of Zadar and Sibenik County (Pasman, Dugi Otok, Murter, Kornati,…)

By purchasing a basic ticket, visitors have access to the entire Nature Park Vransko Lake, where the tasting room Kamenjak is located, as well as three info centres: Kamenjak, Prosika and Crkvine, six educational trails, among which we highlight – Educational trail “Birds of Vransko Lake” at Crkvine, Educational trail “Viewpoint Kamenjak” at Kamenjak and Educational trail “Vransko Lake Fish” at Prosika. Studenac Market

Another old historical church building, parts of it were constructed in the early years of 3rd century. Most of the travelers use it to see the mesmerizing view from its top, the bell tower.

The Cathedral of St. Anastasia (Cro: Katedrala sv. Stošije) is a famous Roman Catholic cathedral, as well as one of the favorite tourist attractions in Zadar. Everybody knows that they can’t miss visiting the Cathedral on their trip to Zadar.

Apart from having an undoubtedly vast historical value, it’s of great importance to Zadar and Croatia even in the present. To this day, it has kept the title of the largest church in Dalmatia and the seat of the Archdiocese of Zadar. 

St. Anastasia is truly an elegant Cathedral and an absolute pleasure for your eyes. Originating back from the 4th century, it has lived more days than many of us could count. 

So if you’re planning on visiting Zadar, let the Cathedral of St. Anastasia tell you its own version of Zadar throughout the centuries. It will be spectacular.

It is an architectural object located in Zadar, and an experimental musical instrument, which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.
Its fine during the day but best visited at sunset...beautiful and relaxing.

Based on high number reviews on the Google, this spot is definitely buffet where you can try a traditional Croatian food and enjoy every taste. 

Absolutely famous country place. If you look for handmade food, typical Croatian and atmospheric this is the right place for you.
Daily meals are excellent, highly recommend to try "Teletina peka", but you have to announce it a two days before.

Prior eating it is a tradition to drink something "short" such as orahovac, kruškovac and višnjevac. Short but sweet drinks. 

Once you try a meal at Buffet Dalmacija, you will definitely come back as many people do.

The Church of St. Donatus is an amazing church from the 9th century, a sightseeing must and the largest pre-Romanesque structure in Croatia! It's 27 m high and 22 m wide, has a specific cylindrical shape, a double interior and it stands out with its originality. Today, it mostly serves as a remarkable venue for medieval renaissance music. The whole structure is an architectural example of the Carolingian period and it is considered the most significant of its kind in Europe.

One of the main attractions in Zadar is the Roman Forum. The Forum in Zadar was built by the first Roman Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian, as witnessed by the stone inscriptions dating back to the 3rd century, when the construction finished. 
It is the site of the original roman market place although little original pieces now remain save for a surviving pillar of a colonnade which was once the size of a football field.

Since the first century B.C., the Forum was the main gathering place for Roman soldiers, religious people, administrators of the Republic and later of the Empire, as well as for traders and all Zadar citizens in Antiquity. At the time of its full glory, the Forum was surrounded on three sides by a magnificent portico. Today, it is an inevitable square for strolling and one of the symbols of the city.

The Karišnica river rises in a cave above the Paulica mill, at an altitude of about 20 meters. After its short 2,400-meter course, it flows into the Karin Sea, where a brackish marsh habitat is formed in the area called Tuvina. Karišnica springs in the cave of the same name, which is located directly above the mentioned Paulica mill. The cave is about 120 m long, 4-7 m wide and 2-3 m high. The Karišnica spring has characteristics typical of springs in karst (karst springs), which dry up in the warmer part of the year, while in the rainy season they suddenly swell. 

The trail leads all the way to the hill from where there is a view of Karin, Velebit and the surrounding hills, and you may even reach Miodrag Gradina.
